Curious Women

January 1962.  The Dick Van Dyke Show had an episode called "The Curious Thing About Women".  I just watched this episode today, thanks to Netflix, and I have to say that it made me laugh yet again!   The comedy in this episode is timeless.  The content:  timeless!

Women have always been curious ....  Laura decides to open Rob's mail, giving him a Reader's Digest version of the content of a letter.  This inspires a comedy sketch about a wife who opens her husband's mail.  He tricks her by sending himself a self-inflating boat in a box .....

It's rather obvious where this one is going, but it still brings a lot of laughs, more than 50 years later!

I'm always in awe of comedy that can make us laugh even years after we first heard it.  I remember  some shows that were funny in their time - All in the Family comes to mind.  I remember laughing at that when I watched it, but it was funny because of the time frame it was showed in.  The roles for men and women were just beginning to change, and he epitomized the male who didn't want things to change.  I have watched a few reruns and the comedy isn't as funny to me now, because things around us have evolved.

I've always admired the Dick Van Dyke show.  The plots may be a little simplistic, but they still have a funny twist to this day.  Women were curious in the 1960s, and they --- WE --- still are!  Maybe that's the one thing that keeps this comedy still running.

I know when I'm doing chores or cleaning house,
I like having this on to keep me company,
to keep my spirits up,
to keep me laughing!!
Take a minute to re-watch this one if you can!
