Where's My Motivation?

Where does it come from? How do we get it? If, or when, we lose it, how do we get it back? Why are some more motivated than others? These are the questions that have been on my mind in the past couple of weeks, as I've been struggling with finding some motivation. So of course, I first turn to Google:

motivate - To provide someone with an incentive to do something; to encourage
motivation - the psychological feature that arouses an organism to action toward a desired goal; the reason for the action; that which gives purpose

We have all heard that in order to get ahead, we need to be motivated. But how?? The way I see it, there are two different kinds of motivation: internal and external. The external kind is the such where you're told to do a task at work; not doing it might get you fired. Or, like me, you view work tasks as a challenge, and get the tasks done. There it is: your motivation. But the other motivation is internal, and something we can control for ourselves. It comes from setting goals. And usually those goals are something we desire. Let's say you want a better job. You find what skills you may need for that job, seek out a way to learn those skills, and then you're ready for a change. The better job is motivation to learn something new (even when its not something you're really fond of, like math!) But, you do it, because its part of the goal you set for yourself.

When we're growing up, our parents are our motivators. They motivate us to do well in school, to clean up our room, and to make good choices. Later in life, there are many people who motivate and inspire us. They lift us up through kind thoughts, words and actions. Then there are the down side motivators, "sex, drugs, rock and roll" ... so to speak :) They take us out of a space we are in, into another space where we feel motivated to do, be and act differently.

But what happens when we think we've lost our motivation? Where do we find it? and how do we get it back? Each of us has a deep source of motivation that is available anyplace, anytime. I think the best motivation comes from within, through the Soul. And if you look hard enough, deep enough, I think you'll find that it's been there all along. We are born with it. We just need to remember.

If you think you’ve lost yours, look again. You may be surprised to discover, it has always been there, just like mine :)
HUGS to everyone!!!
