RIP, Jimmy

Today marked the passing of James Chambers.  He was known to all as Jimmy, his widow is my friend, Helen.  I attended his funeral today,  and it was moving.  I was a tad late because of a doctor's appt.  The minister was just finishing his own portion of the service and they began to play "That's my Job"  by Conway Twitty and oh boy, a tear or two fell.  After that, the Marines in attendance walked up and saluted Jimmy in his casket.  Moving. Then they played Amazing Grace.  Most of the audience tried to sing along... in between tears and sniffles of course.  It's a very moving song, even more so at a funeral.

Some of his kids and grandkids got up and said something about him  Lots of laughter, as Jimmy was quite the character.  His son Anthony told a story about getting his permit to drive, and asking his Dad permission to drive to church.  One Sunday Jimmy relented.  And as Anthony parked the car, he hadn't put it in "Park" and then hit the gas, driving over the concrete wheel stop and through a brick wall into someone's backyard.  Jimmy told Anthony he'd better get on into church and pray.  Anthony asked why (as all kids tend to do!) and Jimmy said "cuz we're gonna have to go home and explain this to your mother."  hehehehe

No Dad is perfect.  If they were perfect, we wouldn't have funny stories to tell about them!  But you could tell from all the stories that Jimmy was a good father.  His three sons are all good men.

Semper Fidelis, Jimmy.
God speed
RIP
