Do you ever feel numb?
We all probably do from time to time. That's about what I'm feeling today. And I've noticed that when I feel that way I crave foods - comfort foods, like chocolate, or carbs.
Today, I'm feeling this was because I'm bummed. Two weeks ago, I got a phone call, wanting to know my interest in transferring to a new store being built a few miles from my BigBox Store. I was excited about something new; one of the benefits would be working with someone I worked with many years ago, someone I respect and admire. Today, I was called to interview for the position, and found out a few things.
This is a revolving schedule, one week's shift might be 5am-2pm, the next week might be 10-7pm. It also means weekend shifts. In my current position, I work 6-3, M-F. It's 3 miles further from my house, so 6 miles per day more of gas and wear/tear on my car. The position would allow me to grow a bit more, to learn new avenues of the business, but it would not be any kind of pay increase to take this new position. The drawback of learning new avenues means the next step up would be in management, and I'm not interested in that at all. And last, but not least, my current work location is right next door to my gym. I would have to make an effort to get to the gym from the new location. (And we all know how it is, once you sit down in your car to drive somewhere -- the gym is not the first place we choose to go!! haha
Sadly, I think I'll have to decline this position.
The other part of being numb: when I called my mom, she said dad was unresponsive today, and that his breathing was labored and had a gurgle sound to it. His home care nurse was going to come by and check on him. I'll know more later this evening.
In the meantime, my son decided to dash off to a friend's house -- and called me 20 mins later saying he'd run out of gas, and could I bring him some? *sigh* Of all days. Then again, sometimes its better to be busy than to do nothing but sit and worry.
