Family, Spring Break and Memories

Dear Brian,

What a bittersweet weekend this has been. 

Tee and family is here for spring break. 

We did a bunch of touristy things yesterday,

with our last stop at Hole in the Rock.







It was one of the places you and I would

dash off to when there was a need to get out,

and brought up so many thoughts of you.


But I came,  I saw,  I conquered


The sunset was amazing!

Papago Park

Each day just before sunset, this place called Hole in the Rock

(at Papago Park) fills up with people ready to view 

the sunset.  It's a hippy vibe as everyone is there for

the same reason.  As the sun sinks lower in the sky,

once it's dropped to the horizon, everyone claps,

appreciating Mother Nature and all her splendor!

It's joyous!

Just a quick stroll in Papago Park,

I was in the mood to catch the sunset.

Friday's ME

I got an urge!

Today, I was home from work a little earlier than usual, so had started puttering around in the back yard, then in the house.  As the light changed from sun to evening, I got an urge to head to the park to see about a sunset picture away from buildings.

I grabbed Sadie and we dashed on over, catching the very last rays at Hole In The Rock!  I missed some of it because of issues with GyPSy... or maybe it was me and my inputs.  heh heh heh

wandered over and got a picture of
the pond after dusk.... :)

Break Your Rut

 








Sometimes you have to

break your rut,

switch up your routine

in order to do something

with meaning.




We get so busy

doing our day-to-day

stuffs, that we forget

there's a whole world out there.

Take a minute or two

to appreciate it,

bask in the glory

of a wonderful sunset.

Friday at last

Ahhhh, Friday.  A very good day of the week, but if your week was anything like mine and you were running at full speed all week, once you get home and sit down, you ask yourself "What's next?" as if you need to keep going and going and going.....

I skipped the gym today.  I had eaten something that upset my tummy a lil bit, wasn't sure working out would be a good thing.  Once I got home, I had a smoothie:  apple, clementine, strawberry banana.  It tasted pretty good :) 

I thought I'd curl up and be a TV junkie for the rest of the night, but I was too antsy...  when that happens, I hook Sadie to her leash and off we go.  We drove over to Papago Park.  I was hoping for some sunset on the clouds kind of photos, but at the last minute the clouds completely covered the sun and it wasn't what I'd hoped. *sigh*  But that's Mother Nature for you!  It was still a pretty site when we looked out 'the hole' .... :)

Stay-cations

Staycations are all the rage this year.  With little money to spare for a glam vacation, people are opting to stay home and vacation that way.  When you think about it, its not a bad idea! 

Most people who live in a town become accustomed to certain places to shop, go to the park, back and forth to work.  They don't often stray far from the usual paths.  We humans are funny that way!  But if you're going to do a staycation -- do it up right!  Check on the internet, or go to your local Visitors Information place and find out what people who choose your town as their vacation place are seeing or doing.  A local chamber of commerce, or historical society, might have places of interest.  Maybe a local museum or two.  State parks are another option.

I'm always trying to get out and about.  After I moved to Arizona, I started heading out in ever widening circles, going to parks, uptown, downtown, the next town over -- just to see what's there.  I've found some very interesting places.  About 20 miles away, there's Canyon Lake.  (left) And of course, my fav Superstition Mountain.  When I headed into downtown Mesa, I found very large sculptures along the main sidewalks -- very cool!  The historical district has some beautiful old homes to look at.  It just takes a little bit of effort to find something interesting.  Next to the Phoenix Zoo is Papago Park, with its "hole in the rock".  (And its free!) (right)

With a little effort on your part, you too can make your staycation memorable!
