Do Towels Expire?

When you're gauging the passing of time, children are one of the best ways to realize that time is passing us by.  Kids grow up so fast; in the first three or four years they seem to change on a daily basis!  And before you know it, middle school, high school, getting their license, graduating even!

Since my kids are grown up, and my granddaughter is in high school, soon to be graduating (Yikes!), I found that as I got out of the shower and started to towel off, I was thinking back to the summer my daughter gave me a set of bath towels, hot pink and white, with a flip-flop beach theme.   And that's when I realized that it's been over ten years now since then.

Where does the time go???

Is there an expiration date on towels?

Once they've been washed a few dozen times is when I like them the best.  So it's no wonder I just keep on using them.  I've stopped and looked at towels or towel sets and wondered what kind I would like ... and never bought any new ones because I really *like* towels that the new-ness has been washed out of them!

Then again, I'm just weird .......

Adios Lounge

There's a song by Tom Waits called Adios Lounge.  Like most of his music, its more than just words and a melody.  There's a raw honesty in the songs he chooses to sing.  And in his edgy whiskey soaked voice, a trademark growl, he belts out the following chorus:

  • Don't let nobody go there for you
  • Don't be satisfied with a second-hand life
  • Don't let nobody stifle or bore you
  • Handle your troubles or take on your strife
  • Don't let nobody live your life for you
  • Not your friends, not your kids, no not even your wife
  • If you want to know where the rainbow ends
  • It's you who´ve got to go there and find it my friend

We each need to live our own lives, to find our own joys.  This song popped up on my mp3 player yesterday, and I've been addicted to it for the past two days now.  Because sometimes we all get into ruts, situations, habits and we forget that we're important too.

You can listen to the tune here.

Just a reminder, my friend, that time passes much more quickly than we realize.
What are you waiting for?
Its time to live for yourself.

Time, and Time Again

Time is a funny thing. The work day goes so slow, and the evenings go so very quickly. And we always wonder "Why?" It's not like kthere isn't plenty to do at work - enough to keep a person (me!) busy all day, or more. Part of the problem, I think, is that I'd rather be somewhere else (the beach, perhaps?) and mentally, maybe I'm not as focused as I ought to be... at least not the full 8 hours of it.

Evenings, of course, go very very quickly. I sit down at my command center (that's my computer, if you don't already know that! hehe) check emails, check the stats on my radio station, line up a DJ if I can. And all the while, I'm (mostly) patiently waiting for my special someone to finish up his day and get online as well. Once that happens, my evenings tend to fly by in a blink.

Does time have a way of being almost fluid? Changing within ourselves depending on where our mind is at? How many of us get lost in our favorite hobby an dwonder later where the time went? I'm certain that our sense of time changes with our surroundings, what we're doing an dhow much we're enjoying ourselves. Of course, there's the whole age part of it as well. Time goes by faster as we get older. And yet, with less responsibilities in raising our families, we have more time for us. Perhaps its just learning to quit watching the clock, and live in the moment!
Timeless, and timely, HUGS to everyone!

Time is a brisk wind,
for each hour it brings something new...
but who can understand and measure
its sharp breath, its mystery and its design?
