Pink Floyd Binge

Pink Floyd made music history. In the early 70s, coming off the 60s and folk music, they had an edge, a viewpoint that didn't kowtow to the mainstream.  And we loved it!

I had a dalliance for a few months with someone who was a huge PF fan. We listened to concert clips for hours on end. What was surprising is that he was much younger than me, and still a huge fan.

If you're a fan of PF, the Roku channel has several documentaries and I'm working my way through them!

Richard Wright's piano playing was magical, David Gilmour on guitar ... paired with the imagination of all of them working toward something that was different.  They created their music without autogenerated tuning or computer helps. They were dedicated to making their own kind of music. I was on the young side as the band started to rise, gaining popularity.

The way they use and transition through minor keys is moving.  It was purposeful for them to play a note and just leave it hanging, the pause as important as the next note. Brilliant!  They even used a slide guitar in some pieces - for me its magical, I like the sound!

Can you imagine have such a drive, bursts of creativity, to make music nearly 24/7 ?

"Because Roger Waters wrote lyrics about the most elemental, unavoidable parts of being human, the Dark Side album acts as a lifetime companion. It waits for you to grow into it. Every wrinkle, joy, and scar you acquire along the way simply adds a new layer of depth to the mix."

If you haven't listened in a while, you should! You can't hear "Kicking around on a piece of ground in your hometown" the same way when you're a teen as the same as when you're retired.

The same music, yet you hear it different as you age. Somehow, the music never ages.

And that is the brilliant gift of Pink Floyd.
