Man Of Steel

Last night was the Premiere of Superman: Man of Steel.  and thanks to Walmart's sponsorship, we were treated to a night out.

The movie begins with mutiny on Krypton and tells the story of how Cal was shipped to Earth.  Entertaining as a story, there were facts and info revealed that you might not have known before.   As Superman grew up, and began to realize he was different from others, we were given insight to the age old questions that plague most of us:  Why am I here?  Where did I come from?  How do I fit in with others?

It was a treat to see Russell Crowe as his Dad on Krypton, and Keven Costner as his Dad on Earth.  Each of them had insights to share with Superman, just as a father might with his own son, about how to live life, to have hopes and dreams, to dare to imagine a future ...  Little vignettes of his growing up years shows how he dealt with the changes inside himself, as well as getting along with other people.  As we all know, kids can be cruel to other kids who are 'different', and Superman was no exception!

The climax to the movie was the fight over gaining control of thhis key...  in order to rebuild Krypton again ... good versus evil.   And good always wins.    In the end, it is his wish to remain on Earth, in order to do good, so he lands a job at The Daily Planet -- where Lois Lane works, of course!

I left out a lot of detailed description of some scenes,
and no doubt if you read critics' reviews, you'll find other opinions.  I haven't seen any other Superman movies, nor can I compare this to other action type films such as Watchmen or Batman.

Overall, it was a good movie.  Being female, I would have preferred more of the growing up years vignettes and less of the action/fight scene that dominates the last half hour of the movie.

Thumbs up!
