They change with divorce, with kids being grown ups.
They also change as we mature
and decide that maybe it isn't
what we thought it would be.
My happiest holiday memories
isn't about the gifts I got.
The best ones have to do with family.
And traditions.
Every year, driving into Santa Cruz to find
Maybe we'd stop at the beach,
or a fav restaurant for a meal or treat.
Christmas Eve was going to church,
singing the old carols
saving Silent Night for last
when all the lights would go out
and every person would hold a candle
waiting to be lit
from dark to light
I carried this tradition on
with my own kids.
I hope they remember it
as fondly as I do.
Maybe they will when they get older.
We always opened gifts after church
on Christmas Eve
(because that's how the Swede's do it!)
Family and Love is at
the heart of Christmas.
Here's hoping your Christmas is filled
with both of those :)
