Northern Exposure

I'm sitting here watching a season of Northern Exposure.  Its a very good show, one I've always enjoyed.  The characters are quirky and not without faults, but that's part of the charm as well.  Things happen that aren't controllable, and they always find a way to get past it.  Sometimes I think we should take lessons from shows-- but then again, issues, problems and heartaches aren't resolved in one hour as they are on TV.

Chris, the local DJ, hits a woman's dog with his truck and it dies.  When he goes to her place to tell her, he starts to have feelings for her, and they date.  She needed to make a trip, so he offers to care for her pets while she's gone.  And her bird dies.  So he finds a replacement.  She doesn't notice, and now feels guilty over his trick.  The following convo ensues between Chris and a store clerk who is wise:

RuthAnn:  its a no win situation when you try to fool somebody you love.
RuthAnn:  you end up hating yourself
RuthAnn:  and having no respect for her because she was taken in.

(side note:  To even the score, the girl has Chris drive his Hog over a cliff.)

And because its been "that kind of a day" ....
it makes me wonder if what RuthAnn said is true
I know that I'll never know the answer to that.
But I can't stop wondering about it.
