Notes and Notebooks

I was cleaning out a cupboard today, and realized that I have a fetish kind of thing for notebooks and journals!  I found no less than five spiral notebooks, the half page sized, four paper bound notebooks, three composition books, two steno pads and a bound journal book.  And I have to laugh at myself ... because I do 90% of all my writing on the computer!  You'd think I would know that I don't need these -- but I might!

It reminds me of the time I was moving out of my second apartment.  My BF was helping empty the closet and found near the back a few dozen empty metal hangers.  (You know how it is, you get a dress dry cleaned, and they send it home on a hanger -- and me, I can't bear to throw useful things away!)  He laughed at me, of course, because who needs that many hangers?  Then taking a box down from the top shelf of the closet -- yep, you guessed it, full of hangers!!   I look back on it now and think "what was I thinking!?!?!"

Now I find I'm that way with notebooks to record things in.  I love the idea of writing things down, wondering what future generations would make of it.  Being a writer and interested in thoughts, in words, I find myself wishing I had something that my grandmother might have written.

Here are some benefits you will get by keeping a journal:
  •  It trains you to be observant
  •  It prevents you from losing an idea
  •  It helps you memorize an idea
  •  It trains you to express your thoughts
  •  It helps you expand your ideas
  •  It helps you review all the lessons you’ve learned
  •  It allows you to see your progress over time
I like the last two the best -- reviewing lessons you've learned helps you from repeating your same mistakes!  And seeing your growth and progress over time helps you appreciate your self and your hard work!

What do you find yourself collecting??
